“29. The windows of the moon have cast” in “Musing”

29.

The windows of the moon have cast

What was and might have been at once

And the dreams of our helixes hold

Something before and after us, the moist

Whisper of those of us we could not

And will not know. Love in the shadows

Of what they suspected, what we surmise

Leads us along, the oak and pine drinking

From the sand. Why others have disciplined

Those whose guesses are different, codes

To chase away chaos, God only knows

But they will take it up for That cause.

It’s hard to turn to the warm of your hand,

Daughter, as we speak in a tongue they fled.
