“108. How to keep the deep fluster and rush” in “Musing”

108.

How to keep the deep fluster and rush

Of blood and flesh that make us animal

From destroying the filament, firmament

We would become? Ancient images

But they catch some of the dilemma,

The molecule between lust and love,

Orgazma extravaganza and ecstasy,

The mixed apprehension of sense and idea.

That may be too abstract as we touch

The tablecloth, the sun on your face flush

And the blush of summer upon us, the smell

Of lilies too soon to fester. Must we be

Volcanoes, the unpredictable eruption,

And can the lava cool and flowers bloom there?
