My interest in the history of Buffalo National Park was first inspired by the stories told to me by Jean Brower, my grandmother, and by Ray Sharp, one of the Park Rangers at BNP. Through my research for this book, which started as an MA thesis, I have met many others whose stories deepened my interest in this park and its history. Thank you to those who granted me interviews and allowed me to use their photographs for this book.

Sincere thanks to my thesis supervisor, Dr. Gerhard Ens, for his guidance and support. Many others offered thoughtful critiques and advice along the way, for which I am grateful. Last, thank you to my parents, Keith and Aileen, my family, and my husband Bevan for their support and encouragement.
