Some day I will write an elegy to Roger Conant

Say that he begot

A town

Caught between election and hysteria

The blue of the Atlantic extending

Between home and exile. Some day I will

Write an elegy, ask questions

About witches and scapegoats

Note that he wasn’t there that year.

Some day I will

Try to do something a little different

And leave him to his own dignity and silence.
