The night sweats convey, confuse

Confound the sanity in a wrist of light

A tenuous angel-hair

The wind an anxious

Scapegoat. The city is besieged

The almost dead eat what they can

The scene from Brueghel before him.

No Gothic novel can devise the shame

He feels each night this visitation comes.

What time is

More barbarous than the present? Dream-tenses

Might shift.

In this dream-grammar, verbs tilt at

The impossibility of time, the drowned

Couple, like poets, dredged from the glacial lake.
